Who We Are

The Studio Art School is managed by a team who have extensive experience in creative arts education, and who for many years were responsible for the management and delivery of a range of highly successful art and design courses in one of the UK’s largest further education colleges.

Fiona Crosbie


Fiona Crosbie

A graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, Fiona worked as a fashion designer for a number of years before returning to lecture on the college's BA Honours course in Fashion Design. She then joined Edinburgh’s Telford College where she lectured to students on a wide range of programmes and was involved in student guidance, international recruitment and in the development of flexible learning materials. She was responsible for managing the college’s BTEC Foundation course in Art and Design.

John Watson


John Watson

A graduate of Edinburgh College of Art and the Open University, John has been involved in Art and Design education for over twenty years. Head of Creative Arts at Edinburgh’s Telford College for six years, he was responsible for the development of one of Scotland’s first Access and Foundation courses in Art and Design. He has worked on a number of collaborative projects with partners in higher education and has extensive experience of course design and development. A practicing artist, he has exhibited in the UK and Japan.

Michael Stewart


Michael Stewart

After graduating from Queen Margaret University College, Michael worked in professional theatre as a scenic artist, properties master and director in Edinburgh and London before beginning a career in education. Michael has worked in promoted posts in secondary and tertiary education and has considerable experience in the development of educational programmes. He has participated in research projects in Britain and Australia.

Arlene Stewart


Arlene Stewart

After graduating from the Scottish College of Textiles, Arlene won a scholarship to Milan and worked as a freelance printed textile designer. She began her career in education at the University of New South Wales in Australia where she had responsibility for the BA Hons course in Textiles and Sculpture. Upon her return to the UK, Arlene joined the School of Creative Arts at Edinburgh’s Telford College. As Assistant Head of School she had responsibility for managing curriculum teams in Art and Design, and for International Student Recruitment. Arlene led the development of the BTEC Foundation course in Art and Design.
